Bawdrip History Group wins National Lottery support

Bawdrip History Group was delighted to receive the news on 16th January that their application for £7,600 of National Lottery funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) had been successful.

The group can now create a Heritage Trail around the village. Three linked interpretation boards with digital interaction will tell the story.

On completion, a QR code will link the boards in to a trail app, which will be downloadable on a linked website. The information will be also be available in a hard copy pamphlet in the local pub (The Knowle Inn) and Bawdrip garage.

Bawdrip Heritage Trail gets ready for ‘go’.

A planning application has been prepared for the installation of the boards, which is an essential part of the project. As soon as this is granted the starting gun can fire.

Bawdrip History Group, working alongside Bawdrip Parish Council will receive £7,600 from (HLF) for this exciting project. This funding, made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, is 85% of the total project cost.

Local grants and donations will make up the remaining amount.

The project will focus on the historic listed buildings in the village, the origins of the railway line that once passed through, links with the Sedgemoor rebellion and the changes over time in the landscape and drainage.

Local people and schoolchildren will be able to discover the village’s origins and explore their history through a series of walks and talks.

Throughout the year, Bawdrip History Group will be learning and sharing their local history, trailing through the past to create footsteps for future generations to follow.

Pam Earnshaw and Jan Culverhouse , Bawdrip History Group, said: “We are thrilled to have received support thanks to National Lottery players and are confident the project will strengthen the sense of community in our lovely village.”

Nerys Watts, Head of HLF South West, said: “Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players we’re delighted to support this project which will enable people of all ages to discover, share and celebrate the story of their village.”
